Ravensong Aquatic Centre Renewal
Project Overview:
The Ravensong Aquatic Centre renewal project in Parksville, British Columbia, was delivered under a pure construction management model for the Regional District of Nanaimo, in partnership with CEI Architecture. Completed in 2010, the project had an approximate value of $4.8 million. As one of the most heavily used indoor recreation facilities in the Oceanside region, the centre required a major capital renewal to address growing structural and mechanical concerns that had gone beyond routine maintenance. The project was designed to restore the facility’s long-term performance, reliability, and ability to continue serving the community.
What Made This Project Unique:
What made this project unique was its role in renewing one of the most heavily used indoor recreation facilities in the Oceanside region through a highly focused structural and mechanical upgrade. Rather than expanding the building, the project concentrated on resolving the core issues affecting its performance, ensuring the aquatic centre could continue operating as a key community hub with improved reliability and efficiency.
How We Made It Work:
We made the project work by applying a pure construction management approach that allowed for close coordination between the client, consultants, and construction team throughout the renewal process. Working in partnership with the Regional District of Nanaimo and CEI Architecture, the team focused on addressing the facility’s most urgent structural and mechanical challenges while maintaining a clear focus on long-term performance. By carefully managing the replacement of both the building envelope and the pool mechanical systems, the project successfully modernized a vital community recreation asset and extended its service life for years to come.
