Langford Sport Centre
Project Overview:
Venture Pacific became involved in the Langford Lanes/Langford Sportsplex project through a recommendation from Vic Davies Architects, submitted a proposal to the City of Langford, and was ultimately awarded the construction management contract. The project ran from early 2010 to August 2011 and had an approximate total value of $23 million.
What Made This Project Unique:
Utility Meets Aesthetics:
The NHL arena, bowling facility, and restaurant/bar—were fully integrated under one roof to create a true multi-use family destination. It quickly became known as “the most family-friendly rink on the island,” reflecting both its design and community appeal. The project also stood out for its year-round versatility, with spaces that could support both ice-based and dry floor activities, maximizing use across seasons. Adding to its uniqueness was the extraordinary demand for the bowling facility, which at completion was already booked nearly two years in advance for bowling use and public play.

How We Made It Work:
We made it work by bringing together a highly versatile mix of recreational, entertainment, and support spaces within one integrated facility. At the core of the project was the West Hills Arena, an NHL-sized venue designed with both indoor and outdoor components, including a unique seasonal “ice river” that connected the indoor rink to an outdoor skating pond through a garage door, made possible by extending the cooling lines outside for a seamless skating experience. The indoor arena was planned to support minor and adult hockey, public skating, and private rentals, while the dry floor system allowed the space to transition in the off-season for indoor soccer, ball hockey, lacrosse, inline hockey, trade shows, and concerts. This flexibility was complemented by a 24-lane bowling facility featuring 20 public lanes and 4 private lanes for events and parties, along with a full-service restaurant and bar attached to the bowling area. To ensure the arena operated at a professional standard, the project also included change rooms and all essential support amenities required for NHL-level operations.
